Shadow speaking practice

이미지
On monday, We had a shadow speaking practice. Actually it was not first time to use this activity to improve my English skills because it is one of my favorite ways studying languages. As I have been using this method for learning languages, I found some advantages and disadvantages.  First of all, Unless you are not native speaker, you cannot speak like them if it is not your mother tongue. So you need to listen to the dialogue very carefully several times. It means not only improving your listening skills, but also making your tongue like native speakers. Because you will listen to it a lot and even try to imitate their accent, body-languge, intonation,... On the other hand, I think we need to find the movies or videos which are appropriate to practice. Because if there are a lot of slangs in one scene and you wanna try to do shadow speaking practice,  you may get the accent and the meaning of slang but you don't really get the exact usage of word, also slang canno

20150426 One-day Tongyeong travel

이미지
After finishing the mid-term exam, we planned to go travel together. So we decided to choose one place for sight-seeing and Tongyeong was chosen by us~!!! So It took around 1hour 30 minutes to get there and we took another 40 minutes to take a cable car. As we expected, there were a lot of people waiting for the cable car. After we got off the cable car, we climbed the mountain during 20 mins. Even though the weather was so hot and it was hard to climb, when we arrived at the top of the mountain, the scenery was really gorgeous and enormous. Southern sea is consisted of several islands and they seems like really beautiful when the sun is starting to going down. After that, we went to the traditional market and mural village. Especially, the mural village was really good for taking pictures together, so we had really good time in the village.  It was the first travel after she has arrived in korea. When we were in France, we visited lots of places toge

Jihun's Quizlet (41 terms)

SHELF (Second Half English Learning Fun) project

When we discussed about the topic in the class, we have a bunch of topics.  So I will introduce some of my favorite topics. First one is making a news (BUFS NEWS). We focus on the 'Podcast' with audio materials like radio channel. At the first time, we plan to talk about the social issues, weather, sports news,.. same as the real news, but we feel that nowadays there are a lot of problems in the school like school bus problem or student restaruant problem. As the owner of this school, students can inform the problem of school and people can form a social consensus. And another advantage is that foreign students who are not fluent in Korean language can understand what are happening in the school nowadays. Furthermore, if it is possible, we can invite them and ask their inconvenience. So we can deliver their opinions as well. Second one is Music Talk show. There is a similar radio program which introduces pop songs and make people understand about the song. The program name

Oprah Winfrey's 2008 Stanford Commencement Address

Nowadays I am really interested in watching a video, especially the famous speaker's speech. It is actually because of 'English Speech' class, but related to the Audiovisual English class, I think it can be a good opportunity to watch this kinds of video. In this video, Oprah Winfrey told 3 lessons that she has had the greatest impact on her entire life. "Feelings", "Failure", "Finding happiness" are those 3 things that she wants to share with students. Especially, in my case, I love the quote which is "You have to live for the present. You have to be in the moment. Whatever has happened to you in your past has no power over this present moment, because life is now." It is similar to the quote in the movie 'Kungfu Panda.' "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is mystery, but today is a mystery but today is a gift, that is why we called a 'present'." Whenever I start the new semester, I usually write do

Heineken - the candidate

It is one of awesome beer companies all over the world, "Heineken". And It is my ultimate goal working for this company! So I just tried to find an information about this company and this video is on Youtube! "The first job interview that you can't prepare for", this quote makes me really interesting! People prepare the first interview for getting a job as usual, and most people just exaggerate themselves when they describe themselves to the interviewers. Even in Korea, there are some educational institutes for job-interview. (to give accurate answer when they have a job-interview) When you calculate something or do math things, definitely there is an "answer". But introducing yourself to the others and show your ability have no accurate answer. Everything needs to be natural and real. So in this interview, Heineken wants to avoid "Prepared answer" dealing with "Standard questions" The company ttys to know how well the

Parents of ferry disaster victims refuse state reparation plan

ENG) Parents of ferry disaster victims refuse state reparation plan   Published : 2015-04-02 19:58 Updated : 2015-04-02 19:58 1) A group of parents of some of the high school students killed in a ferry accident last year lambasted the government’s reparation plans on Thursday, demanding a thorough probe into the accident’s causes and the recovery of the sunken ship instead. 2) In a rally at the Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, the parents shaved their heads to protest what they called the “government’s unilateral decision to pay reparations against the parents’ wishes.” 3) “We have never asked for money,” said Yoo Gyoung-geun, a family spokesman who lost his daughter in the disaster. 4) “All we ask is that the ferry be towed out from the sea, so that those still missing can be found and that officials fully investigate the cause of the disaster,” Yoo added. 5) The 6,800-ton passenger ferryboat Sewol sank in waters off southwestern Korea last April, killing 304. Feedback about using AudioVisual materials to study language

First of all, it was the very new way to study english using audiovisual materials (have a discussion on recording). During the discussion, at first, nobody knew how to process the conversation and what should we do before asking some questions like introduction part. But after we started to talk about our topic, We just felt comfortable and got into the topic. The discussion was based on 5 ~ 6 questions prepared before the class, and we tried to have a talk show style. So one person asked questions and panels answered it. About the topic, most of people were on "men and women can be a friend" side, and only one person was against the opinion. But everyone had different criteria to distinguish between "the friend" and "man/women". Based on the cultural and inviditual perspective, It was really adequate to have different opinions for sure. For language learning, I think it is very good way to acquire the knowledge from the audiovisual materia
